At the beginning of the week we set off on the two boats Pelagic and Pelagic Australis for the crossing from the Falklands to South Georgia with high spirits, looking forward to some tuneful singing of sea shanties and a spot of whale and bird watching. However, despite these high expectations, little wildlife was sighted due to rough seas and the fact that the majority of eyes were either focused on the horizon or on the bottoms of buckets. Despite a slight hiccup with the gearbox aboard Pelagic Australis, resulting in a short trip to back to Stanley, everyone was reunited at Husvik, South Georgia, on Sunday in time for cake and tea with Pat Lurcock, the government official of South Georgia. Having reached our main destination, fuelled with the excitement of seeing the awe-inspiring mountains rising out of the sea in the early hours of the moning as we arrived, everyone is chomping at the bit to get out and explore.
