BEYOND ENDURANCE: Antarctica Gap Year Expedition

November – December 2007

The British Schools Exploring Society has taken eleven gap year students on a scientific expedition to Antarctica, from the immense white continent itself to the historic Falkland Islands, glacial South Georgia and volcanic Deception Island. Whilst they are there the team of explorers and scientists are writing about their experiences exclusively for physics.org.

The expedition’s science programme will focus on investigating climate change and global warming in addition to contributing to practical conservation projects. There will also be plenty of opportunity for adventure and exploration.

2007 is the International Polar Year and this expedition will make a valuable contribution, enhancing our understanding of polar ecosystems and raising awareness of the importance of Antarctica to the rest of the World.
